TPS Officers are responsible for providing and supporting security at nuclear power stations.  Security responsibilities and functions are performed in accordance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) requirements.  Under the direction of Client leadership, the security team prevents and protects the station against radiological sabotage as defined by the Design Basis Threat (DBT).  Security officer will become knowledgeable of defensive tactics, security policies and procedures and gaining tactical and an extensive weapons work experience.  Responds to, assesses, and investigates alarms, special conditions, emergency situations and security safeguards.  Searches vehicles, personnel and packages prior to entry to the stations Protected Area.  Serves as a member of the armed response force by responding to assigned portions of the protective strategy as directed.  May coordinate and respond to station contingency events with local fire and law enforcement agencies.  Patrol protected area perimeter and barriers, perform special patrols of critical and sensitive equipment and areas to include vital areas.  Test security related equipment, including communications systems, x-ray screening devices, explosive detectors, metal detectors and alarm systems.  Submit security related reports and maintain security related documents.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience (Minimum Requirements)

Basic knowledge of weaponry and the safe handling of weapons

Must be able to learn and obtain the basic knowledge of nuclear plant operations

Ability to successfully complete academic exams

Ability to successfully complete physical training requirements

Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers

Ability to analyze information and make sound decisions

Good attention to detail

Ability to maintain high level of alertness in a variety of conditions

Specific Requirements:

Successfully complete security clearance screening for escorted access and nuclear security officer including clearance for access to safeguard information

Successfully pass a company approved medical examination for security officers

Must be able to complete Security Officer Basic Training and achieve qualification in all required site specific and unarmed tasks

Additional Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Minimum Age 21

Valid Driver’s License

Successfully pass Drug & Alcohol Screening

Successfully pass Background Check for access to a nuclear plant.

Experience:

Previous experience preferred in Security, Law Enforcement, and Military, but not required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit and walk, use hands and fingers, talk, and hear.  Employee must be able to lift/move up to 25 pounds as well as carry up to 10 pounds additional weight on his/her person in equipment.

Work Environment:

Work in various weather environments. 12 Hour Rotating Shift work including days, nights, and weekends.
